The Early Adult Years

Going Back a Few Years Ago...

I moved to Nebraska, from New Mexico (I was sent to live with my aunt there at 16), at 17. I came here knowing only the person I came here with.  We lived at his mom's house for about a month, and i met and befriended a group of people that (most of them) are still my friends today. Even though we are all scattered everywhere now.... funny how time does that. They had questions about why I was here and some asked about my Cerebral Palsy and a few made fun of it at first. However, in the end my disability has never really been a big issue to those who are my friends here.

The day I moved here I met my now soon-to-be ex husband. He was my best friend right from the beginning. We spent a lot of time together and texted each other all the time. When the man I came here with took me up to a smaller town, he ended up leaving me there after a few days with a man (who is now an awesome dude and has a baby on the way! Congrats Moose!) that I had only known for less then a week. I told my now soon to be ex what happened and he and his roommates came to get me and I moved in with him. Things were great for a while. We moved up to Lincoln, to get a fresh start and became roommates with another of our friends, and this is when I became pregnant with our son Ronnie.

I honestly didn't know anyone with CP who had kids so I was very scared, but throughout the pregnancy, my ex was there and mad sure I made it to all of my doctor's appointments. I knew from the beginning that I was going to have to have a cesarean section due my pelvis being so tiny and my disability.
Ronnie was born May 9, 2008 8lbs 2 1/2 oz. Healthy as can be!

During my pregnancy with Ronnie I had started watching modeling shows, and I always loved taking pictures. However, I never wanted to be your "mainstream" model. 1. Because that's not my style. Ive always been more of an alternative/rocker type.  2. Is a given... I cant walk in high heels!  I always said though someday I would model.... Never knew how to do it though.

My ex and I got married on October 10th, 2009, and ever since then our relationship went down hill. I wasn't "putting out" enough. He was staying out till all hours, losing  jobs, becoming very easily angered, lying, just a big jumbled mess. Until Christmas Eve of 09 he pushed me into our fridge out of anger and stress. In front of my now best friend. I should have left then. Had I known what a whirlwind of a storm was coming next.

More to come later.

Beginning my journey blogging about my life.

My name is Cara M. Carpenter. I was born on October 8th, 1989 in a small town in Pennsylvania. I was born prematurely, and the doctor's were not sure if I would make it. I did. Growing up my parents both had drug and alcohol problems so my grandmother Mary (God bless her R.I.P), took in me and my sister and raised us as her own. I was officially diagnosed with Spastic Cerebral Palsy at the age of 4.  She was very sick, but through all the surgeries and doctor's appointments she was there for me. She passed away in late fall 2002 and since then my life has dramatically changed. I've grown a lot, made some bad choices, and pushed through struggles to get to where I am today.

Now, at 23 I am the proud mother of two amazing kids (Ronnie 5 and Chloe 16 months). I have lived through Domestic Abuse my whole life, and want to reach out to others who are in bad relationships or abusive homes.  I live on my own raising my kids, and use Alternative modeling as a creative outlet for CP Awareness,as well as my personal struggles. I believe that no matter you difficulties in life you can overcome them.

Welcome to my blog. I look forward to meeting some awesome new people. Hoping that my experiences can inspire at least one person!
